Vice President
Economic Intelligence & Planning

Neil joined Turner Drake after several years’ experience developing large-scale wind energy projects across Nova Scotia. His addition to the firm in 2014 marked the genesis of Turner Drake’s Planning Division and our efforts to bring expertise in valuation, real estate economics, and market analysis to community planning, policy, and development processes. A natural and closely collaborative relationship quickly developed with Turner Drake’s existing Economic Intelligence Unit, and since 2019, he has held the role of Vice President for both divisions.

Together with his colleagues, he supports clients with a broad variety of expertise spanning community planning, real estate and market analysis, applied economics, public policy, and Geographic Information Systems. Serving both the private and public sectors, his work spans a variety of subject matter but is consistent in its focus on generating practical, evidence-based solutions and advice in response to novel problems and complex contexts. Neil is also a seasoned and confident speaker, equally comfortable in front of a conference crowd, a courtroom, a community hall, a corporate boardroom, or a kitchen table.

He is a professionally and technically trained planner, with a Bachelor of Community Design (Hon. Urban Design Studies) degree from Dalhousie University, a Diploma in GIS & Urban Planning from Fanshawe College, and a Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) from the University of British Columbia. Neil is a licensed professional planner and a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP). In addition to his work at Turner Drake, Neil is an Adjunct Faculty member at the Dalhousie University School of Planning teaching Land Development Economics, and is a volunteer in the non-profit housing sector.
