Precision by Hand: How Turner Drake’s Lasercad® Division Sets the Standard for Accurate Floor Plans

The Challenge

In an industry where accuracy is everything, I quickly learned when starting with Turner Drake & Partners in January of 2024 that the Lasercad® division stands above the rest. A common issue among many service providers is the lack of attention to detail during the initial site inspection, which often leads to inaccurate floor plans. These inaccuracies can ultimately cost the client not only time and money but also diminish owner and tenant relationship.

Turner Drake’s Approach

At Turner Drake, we take a different approach. The quality of our work from the outset can be described as “hand-made,” a skill I refined as a Lasercad® trainee by shadowing a mentor during my first three site inspections. I learned firsthand about the importance of hand-drawn, hand-shot measurements and how these details play a crucial role in the final product we deliver.

Unlike the automated techniques that are all the rage these days, Turner Drake’s approach is methodical. We carefully assess and review each site, taking the time to draw by hand the unique features and complexities of every space we measure. This hands-on method allows us to capture the full scope of a space, ensuring that floor plans are created with the highest level of accuracy before we input the measurement data into our Computer-Aided Design (CAD) system to produce precise, laser-sharp plans.

Additionally, we understand that the job isn’t finished once the space is measured and drawn by hand. That’s why, before leaving any site, I learned to conduct on-site error checks, resolving any issues that could cost both myself and the client valuable time. A second round of error checks is employed back at the office when we input the measurements into our CAD program. This diligent process ensures that when we walk away, we are confident in the precision our hand-shot measurements and drawings will deliver.

Winning Results

The results speak for themselves. Since 1976, Turner Drake has measured and certified over 10,000 buildings—ranging from office, retail, mixed-use, and residential spaces. Our BOMA-certified floor plans provide clients with reliable measurements, giving them confidence in future lease agreements. Upholding a systematic standard that was instilled in me early on, our approach not only delivers but remains true to the hand-drawn, hand-shot, pinpoint accuracy that defines Turner Drake & Partners.
